Caroilne Diesel Engine

Block

Two piece bullet aluminium.

endview.jpg

The block will be in two halves (like a VW beetle engine)

There are a few differences though.

The bearing lay out will be similar to the tiger tank engine from WW2. This will be on the inner main bearings. The ends will have their bearings on the power out put shafts.( www.tiger-tank.com/secure/journal41.htm)

All water galleries and oil galleries will be in the block.

Even though this is a sleeve valve engine it will still have wet liners. ( this is to facilitate ease of manufacture.

Here is one oddity I would like to introduce to this engine.

It might be some thing that has been done before? I do not know.

What it is:
Realising that with this engine I do not have to try to seal a head gasket, I will let the head bolts also be a bearing housing. So the loading from the head, will not be carried by the engine casing to the mane crankshaft bearings, but will be carried by the bearing support and head bolts.

As you can see there are two types of "bearing supports"

There is the type that is at the ends and only support the head in the one direction,

and the central bearing supports that support the heads in both directions.
